Storytellers Chair

£1,100

Sleek yet warped, the storytellers chair is a fusion of functional design and the wild form of the wood. More Mirk Wood than Farthing Wood, this chair has a touch of darkness at its core created by the central oak slabs. The seat is framed by two bone oak posts that rise up either side like witches' fingers, you can image a raven perched on the chair back as the storyteller leans forward to begin the tale... "

Bone oak is formed from the heart wood of an oak branch or trunk. It is created when a tree or bough falls in the woodland and is left to rot, the sap wood easily breaks down leaving the central, solid core of the wood. We love using bone oak to make chairs as it preserves beautiful shapes that are only seen if you let the heart wood emerge in this way. The gnarled back posts of this chair really show off the twisted qualities of the bone oak. Using bone oak also means that this chair is perfect for outdoor storytelling as it will withstand all weathers. We believe in doing the right thing by the environment and by the local economy so we source our wood from local farms or from sustainably managed forests and woodlands in and around the Dyfi Valley. So, the storytellers chair was literally grown and made in Wales! Whether you're celebrating a marriage or sharing age-old folklore, this seat will captivate the imagination of everyone present and inspire a sense of grandeur, beauty and magic.

We've been designing and building these storytelling chairs for the last 12 years. Recently we started running workshops where we teach other people to make these chairs. As a result several small business's making similar chairs have sprung up. We invite this competition and find it helps keep us on our toes in constantly improving the design, the quality and the aesthetics of these very popular chairs. Beautifully crafted entirely from Welsh oak and locally sourced cedar , this exquisite throne is built to last and will withstand all weathers in the great outdoors. An exceptional ceremonial seat, it is equally suitable for story-telling at home or school, and children will be queuing up to sit in the Storyteller's Chair! Whether you're celebrating a marriage or sharing age-old folklore, this seat will captivate the imagination of everyone present and inspire a sense of grandeur, beauty and magic.
