Hi Guys

Wild Cornwall will be the perfect spot to put this beautiful gift. The tale of the chair adds to the rich history of folklore, story-telling and the spoken word here at Eden, as well as providing a quiet place for people to sit and reflect

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the storytellers chair, it looks great and was admired by many people at going home time on Friday.  We've put it inside for the Easter holidays and will be the centre piece of an assembly in the new term, then we'll put it out in pride of place up at our outside classroom area.

 Thanks

Chris Leleux

This chair has featured 3 times on the BBC News!

To the top of a mountain and down again, then set to rest in Cornwall's Eden Project, Follow the surprising journey of our giant storytelling chair in the three articles below.

1: 4th November 2010
Craftsman's leaving present near Cadair Idris summit

The chair on Cadair IdrisA craftsman has created a chair, and taken it up a mountain, as a leaving gift to a Gwynedd community.
Nick Bullen said he had been given such a warm welcome when he set up in business in Corris six years ago that he wanted to give something back before returning to South Africa.
It took 15 people four hours to transport the reclaimed oak chair up Cadair Idris.
The chair now rests close to the 893m (2,930ft) summit.
The wood used is all reclaimed oak fence-posts and oak tree branches from the slopes of the mountain.
It is the type of wood Mr Bullen uses in his Sylvantutch eco-furniture business, which will carry on when he leaves.
"We are heading back to South Africa on a semi-permanent basis, and the chair is an appropriate going away present," he said.
"It weighs 200kg and is about 8ft and is made out of oak fence posts from the farm next door to the Cadair Idris summit," he added.

The chair should last about 20 years, but "if people are willing to go up there to give it some oil occasionally" it should survive the harsh Snowdonia weather for many years, he said.
A gift of a chair is also appropriated because the name of the mountain roughly translates as Idris' chair, he added.
They were helped by lovely sunny weather, but it turned as they got near the summit, and they dashed down in heavy rain and wind in an hour, he said.
Mr Bullen added he had considered the effects of his actions before deciding to take the chair up the mountain.

Chair on the way up Cadair Idris"I had heard before about a grand piano being taken up Ben Nevis and part of it not being biodegradable - and a pool table up the Brecon Beacons - but the chair is biodegradable, so I hope people will warm to it," he said.

There was a conscious decision too to place it away from the summit itself too so that the top of the mountain was kept clear, he added.

Lez Paylor, who was one of the team who took the chair up the peak, said the piece was a "beautiful piece of art".
"It is very large, and very heavy and we carried it Egyptian style," he added.

Cadair Idris chair gift to be removed

The chair on Cadair Idris

"I would have preferred it at the top, but there are no hard feelings on either side," he added.
Mr Bullen said the public reaction to the chair had been "very supportive".
It would start a dangerous precedent if people began putting chairs and benches on the mountain”.

However, environmentalists were less keen on the chair crafted from oak being left close to the 893m (2,930ft) summit.
"I completely understand their point of view and they've offered us another, beautiful spot to put it," added Mr Bullen.
The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) said Mr Bullen's company Sylvantutch had agreed to remove the large chair as it was placed "without consent or consultation" from CCW or the Snowdonia National Park Authority.
"Some issues of concern were not considered - including concern about safety, vandalism and erosion," said a spokesman.

Exhibition centre
"It would start a dangerous precedent if people began putting chairs and benches on the mountain," said Paul Williams, CCW's Cadair Idris reserve manager.
"The site is of high conservation value and the added danger of high winds blowing over such a large object meant that we had to ask for the chair to be removed," he added.
After it is recovered the chair will be placed at CCW's exhibition centre at Ystradlyn cottage, at the foot of the mountain.
"I'm glad the issue has been resolved and that all parties have worked together to ensure common sense has prevailed," Mr Williams added.

3: 5th March 2011
Cadair Idris oak chair is presented to the Eden Project

Grace, three, tries out the chair at its new location
A large oak chair, which was removed from a mountain in Snowdonia, has a new home - in Cornwall.
South African craftsman Nick Bullen left the 8ft (2.43m) chair on Cadair Idris as a thank you to the community.
But conservation bodies were worried it would set a precedent as they are contacted regularly by people wanting to donate memorial benches and plaques.
Now it has been presented to the Eden Project, which called it a "beautiful gift".
It had taken 15 people four hours to carry the chair close to the 893m (2,930ft) summit in November.
Both the Snowdonia National Park and Countryside Council for Wales said allowing the chair to stay would set a "dangerous precedent", as they were contacted regularly by people wanting to donate memorial benches and plaques.
There was also concern it might topple over in high winds.

Mr Bullen, who was returning to South Africa, said there were "no hard feelings".
The seat has been given a spot at the Wild Cornwall area of the Eden Project eco-attraction near St Austell overlooking the Biomes plant houses.
Diana Mullis, of the Eden Project, said: "Wild Cornwall will be the perfect spot to put this beautiful gift.
"The tale of the chair adds to the rich history of folklore, story-telling and the spoken word here at Eden, as well as providing a quiet place for people to sit and reflect."
